Answer: Black Dog Furniture is proud to be your authentic New Zealand furniture manufacturer based in Bruntwood, Cambridge.
The Black Dog story.
Andy MacDonald started Black Dog Furniture over 25 years ago, naming it after his loyal companion Arnie, a black lab who served as “director of operations” for sixteen years. What began as a small manufacturer of dog beds and kennels has since evolved into one of New Zealand’s most iconic furniture brands.
Andy’s background in shearing sheds and forestry instilled a passion for sustainable timber use. His signature creation — the Woolpress Leaner — was originally crafted by repurposing old Donalds Woolpresses, with the original manufacturer later granting him exclusive rights to their designs and history.
Today, Black Dog pieces of all kinds can be found in New Zealand’s finest pubs, bars, and homes.
The Donalds Woolpress
Once a staple in New Zealand shearing sheds, the Donalds Woolpress was a robust machine used for compressing and baling wool. Later reimagined by Andy of Black Dog Furniture...
